Celebrity chef Anton Mosimann Obe to judge NZ Hospitality Championships

The NZChefs Association has confirmed that Celebrity Chef Anton Mosimann OBE will visit Auckland in August this year to judge the NZ Hospitality Championships taking place at the Logan Campbell Centre, ASB Showground, Greenlane, Auckland between August 11-14.

“We feel privileged to host Chef Anton Mosimann this year.  He was the first winner of the prestigious Nestle Toque d’Or and has graciously agreed to be our guest judge. While in Auckland, Chef Mosimann will be introducing his new autobiographical book – “Life is a Circus” and will personally sign copies purchased by visitors attending the event. A separate industry occasion is planned to get ‘up close and personal with Chef Mosimann’ along with visits and outings to training establishments and venues”, said Janine Quaid NZ Chefs Association Executive.

This annual event, which began in 1991, is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the only one to incorporate Cookery, Statics, Restaurant Service and other industry related classes such as Barista, Cocktail and Bed Making.

This year over 1000 entrants from around New Zealand are expected to compete. More than 80 different classes will also be offered at various levels, including Primary School (with the Kiwi Kids Can Cook Programme), Secondary School, Tertiary as well as Open Classes for Industry professionals.

A further 400 judges, volunteers, mentors and support personnel will also be in attendance over the 4 days to assist with the fun events and the premier industry competitions such as Nestle Toque d’Or, Chef of the Year and Training Establishment of the year.

“As an industry, Hospitality has long been viewed as stop gap employment with limited career pathway opportunities. The NZ Hospitality Championships (NZHC) is committed to ensuring that all stages of skill, whatever the level or age, can be demonstrated in both live and static competitions.

The focus is on the practitioners and their abilities within their various fields and we strive to continue to promote and nurture talent through this multi-skill showcase” said Janine.

“This Championship event is not only where our talented NZ Chefs are showcased, tested and created, but also where Baristas, Barmen and so many others working within the wider Hospitality and Tourism Industry can hone their own specific skills so that both locals and visitors enjoy a world class customer service experience”, she concluded.
