MG*makes mobile charging easier for the hospitality industry

rsz_novi_2This week MG* unveiled the world’s first mobile charging station. Known as the Novi, the new technology charges eight 2,600 MAH pods simultaneously. The device uses Luna Pulse Technology, is small and light, and requires a simple AC adapter to begin charging.

The company is launching an Indiegogo fundraising campaign to raise capital needed for the first mass order to manufacture Novi units. The campaign can be seen here:

The design for Novi was conceived after noticing how hard it was to charge a phone or other mobile device when about town.

“We realized that charging a mobile phone outside was always a hassle. A bar or restaurant could be reluctant to help, and even if they did you would have to leave your phone charging behind a bar. That makes it difficult if you are waiting for someone to arrive,” said Karen Clarke Ng of MG*.

MG*combined the best aspects of a portable power bank and an outside charging station to make the world’s first portable charging station.

Luna Pulse Technology is powered by magnets. Each of the eight units charges by making contact with the dock. This arrangement also works as a security feature. Novi pods can only be exclusively charged by thedock.

Novi includes built-in cables such as micro USB, iPhone, and 5+/Lightning cable.

Novi is being marketed to both consumers and businesses. Designers see it becoming a frequent feature at restaurants, hotels, bars, and events where many people need to recharge their devices.

“Our aim was to develop a charging system that can conveniently charge multiple portable chargers to make offering a charging service very manageable,” said George Tang of MG*.

Market research recently showed that 90% of people asked said they would welcome a device like Novi and use it frequently. MG*designers believe their innovation is the next logical step for an increasingly mobile digital world.

“The value of the Novi is that in the end, it is a very simples olution to a common problem,” Tang said.
