Short-Term Rental industry conference planned for March 2025

Auckland will host the STRive to Thrive Conference in 2025, bringing together industry leaders from across New Zealand and globally in the short-term rental (STR) sector to discuss strategies for innovation and collaboration.

Believed to be a first-of-its-kind event in New Zealand  the conference organisers say it underscores the critical role that STRs play in supporting local communities and businesses.

Founder of STRive to Thrive, Bart Sobies, says this milestone reflects the increasing importance of the short-term rental industry across Australasia, which includes approximately 180,000 properties in Australia and 45,000 properties in New Zealand.

“The industry provides essential accommodation solutions, driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering connections that benefit the entire country,” says Sobies.

“The STR industry plays a crucial role in accommodating not just tourists but also a wide array of travellers with diverse needs.

“From business professionals on temporary assignments and families reuniting for special occasions to medical patients seeking comfortable stays near healthcare facilities, STRs provide flexible and personalised accommodation solutions. They also cater to contractors, students attending educational programmes, and locals requiring interim housing during relocations or renovations.

“The short-term rental industry is incredibly versatile,” asserts Sobies. “The industry serves a broad spectrum of guests beyond tourists; we facilitate essential stays for business travellers, families needing space to stay together, medical visitors, and more. The industry’s ability to meet these diverse needs is a significant part of its strength.”

“The industry has a significant positive ripple effect on local economies,” Sobies remarks. “Our guests contribute directly to local businesses, which helps create jobs and promote community development. Our guests spend money at neighbourhood restaurants, shops, and attractions, promoting local entrepreneurship and helping to sustain local economies.”
