Chefs set to turn up the heat at the NZChefs National Salon

rsz_chefs_salon-8Some of New Zealand’s best and brightest chefs will be putting their culinary prowess and creativity to the test this July, when they compete for top awards at the NZChefs National Salon.

The four-day event will showcase a variety of cooking competitions for primary, secondary and tertiary students, as well as industry professionals. The main features are the Nestlé Toque d’Or tertiary events, International Pacific Rim Global Chef, Global Pastry Chef and Hans Bueschkens World Junior Chef competitions.

The National Salon will run from Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August 2015, at the Logan Campbell Centre, ASB Showgrounds, alongside the ever popular Auckland Food Show.

“The National Salon is a well-known event on the hospitality industry calendar,” says NZChefs President Graham Hawkes. “However we want to showcase the some of the best in the industry to the general public as well. That’s why we’ve decided to hold the event at the same time as The Food Show”.

Visitors will be able to see the chefs in action and the judging of the dishes out in the open. Plus there’s a huge range of competitions; from the impressive 6 hour Global Chef patisserie event, to Sunday’s Tapas creations, Curry Cup and Kids Can Cook Competition. “We think there’ll be something for everyone to enjoy” Graham says.

Admission to the event is free and visitors to the salon will also be able to watch smoothie, cocktail and barista heats on the main stage, as well as a variety of cooking demonstrations.

The NZChefs Association is also bringing back classic hospitality events such as table setting, bed making and waiter races.
