Dalman competed against the best property professionals and hotels across Asia Pacific to be awarded this title for their project Te Waonui Forest Retreat.

Te Waonui Forest Retreat is an eco-luxe, 100-room, 5-star hotel located in native rainforest in Franz Josef, New Zealand. It is owned and operated by Scenic Hotel Group.

The hotel design takes the form of four wings that join to enclose an area of carefully preserved native rain forest. It incorporates sustainable design principles and features many natural and New Zealand made products.

Timber cladding complements the existing native bush and West Coast aesthetic. Guest room balconies are set into the rain forest amongst the birds and the bush, ensuring guests an authentic 100 per cent New Zealand experience.

Richard Dalman, Managing Director of Dalman Architecture says, “We are honoured to be presented with this prestigious award for Te Waonui Forest Retreat. We feel it is recognition for our architects and interior designers who have worked on the project, and our client who was focussed on reducing the impact of their hotel on the surrounding environment.”

Brendan Taylor, Managing Director says, “Scenic Hotel Group is delighted with the architecture and interior design of Te Waonui Forest Retreat. It is of true international quality and at the same time completely authentic to its New Zealand rain forest location.”

Te Waonui Forest Retreat will now go through to the International Property Awards finals to compete with other regional winners for best Hotel.
