JW Marriott unveils new interior design concepts for former Stamford

Marriott International, Inc., has unveiled the new JW Marriott Auckland’s design concepts for the guest rooms, as part of the first stage of its NZ$25M refurbishment project.

Designed by renowned global interior design studio O37, the rooms feature a modern and sophisticated aesthetic that blends the existing hotel’s features (formerly the Stamford Hotel), with JW Marriott’s signature luxury brand, guided by the principle of mindfulness.

The design concept, inspired by the merging of old and new, revolves around the concept of “beautiful collisions,” where the weaving of opposite elements results in a harmonious and tranquil living space.

“With the full transformation of JW Marriott Hotel Auckland on the horizon, we are thrilled to offer a glimpse of what guests can expect ahead,” said Sean Hunt, Area Vice President Australia, New Zealand and Pacific at Marriott International.

“The new room designs perfectly encapsulate our brand DNA, reflecting the legacy of our founder J. Willard Marriott’s vision of holistic wellbeing and mindfulness — allowing travellers to bring their whole selves and be truly present to experience Auckland to the fullest.

“Each room’s balance of raw and refined, rough and smooth textures — inspired by New Zealand nature — coexist in perfect symmetry, offering luxury travellers a visually stunning and revitalising stay.”

The new JW Marriott Auckland marks the iconic brand’s first property in New Zealand, located at the centre of Auckland CBD.

“We are incredibly excited to bring the room design concepts to life at the new JW Marriott Auckland. In collaboration with Leonard from O37 and Dinesh Pandey, part of the hotel’s owning company CP Group, we have worked together to deliver thoughtful luxury and modern serenity for guests,” said Girish Talreja, General Manager of JW Marriott Auckland.

Each season brings a new chapter to the JW Marriott Auckland story, and as tourism is back on the rise in New Zealand, we look forward to welcoming both local and international visitors with an elevated luxury hospitality experience, here in the heart of Auckland.”

Speaking to the design of the rooms, Leonard Lee, Founder & Creative Director at O37 said, .”Currently, JW Marriott Hotel Auckland features 286 rooms offering brand new JW signature beds and smart TVs with Chromecast, 40 of which will be renovated to the new design by September and with reservations opening thereafter. Following this, the hotel will continue its transformation journey with each floor being renovated one at a time.”

The completion date of all rooms is set for mid 2024, alongside a full renovation of the all day dining restaurant, meeting rooms and lobby area, which has already undergone an initial renovation.

The top floor large fitness centre, spa, sauna and indoor heated swimming pool offer the finest views of the CBD and Auckland Harbour Bridge, providing the perfect place to unwind and relax with friends and family.
