Giesen Wines sponsors The Court Theatre

rsz_giesen_brothersGiesen Wines, in an extension of its support for the arts in Canterbury, are proud to announce a new partnership as Principal Sponsor of The Court Theatre in Christchurch.

Already a supporter other local arts icons, The Christchurch Art Gallery and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, this new three year sponsorship agreement has strengthened Giesen Wines’ association with The Court Theatre and the arts in Canterbury.

Theo Giesen, along with brothers Alex and Marcel, are regular attendees at The Court Theatre. “When we were young and living in Germany, our parents took us to some of the great historic sites of Europe such as the Louvre, Milan Cathedral and others. Our father’s side of the family were great stonemasons, so we have always been interested in architecture as well.

“The arts often seem to miss out on sponsorship, and that is why we have been such strong supporters over the years,” Theo Giesen said. After the 2011 earthquakes Giesen Wines generously supported The Court Theatre to help sustain their cash flow through some tough times.

Philip Aldridge, chief executive of The Court Theatre, said that the Giesen brothers had always been enthusiastic supporters of The Court and having the theatre associated with such a strong international brand was enormously exciting.

“While we plan for our ultimate move to the new Performing Arts Precinct, we will continue to deliver a full calendar of shows for 2016 including (in the first half of the year), Macbeth; Matthew, Mark, Luke and Joanne; The Dunstan Creek Séance; Cops and Robbers; and Educating Rita.

“Last year audiences in excess of 130,000 attended to our performances – a new record for The Court. We believe that we can continue to grow these numbers. It really is an exciting time for the theatre,” he said.
