Selaks to prove NZ’s favourite winter meal can be traditional and contemporary.

A roast is a roast is a roast, right? Not at all, and in 2014 Selaks NZ Roast Day sets out to prove New Zealand’s favourite winter meal can be both traditional and contemporary.

It’s a landmark year for Selaks as it celebrates both its 80th anniversary and the fifth year of connecting Kiwis with the family-focused meal. The popular nod to the heritage of the roast takes place on Sunday 3 August.

Nina Stojnic, marketing director at Selaks says everyone at the company is delighted with the fact roast day aligns so well with the brand’s 80th year in business.

“The Selaks family has lived the mantra of enjoying good food and wine with friends and family from the time Marino first set foot on New Zealand soil in 1906 and as he built the business he founded in 1934.

“We are proud to carry on that tradition through our products and particularly with Selaks NZ Roast Day which pays homage to New Zealand’s favourite winter meal and the good times it brings to the table,” Ms Stojnic says.

This year the distinguished wine brand is delivering to its celebrations a roast day recipe comprising a blend of old and new. For the second year, celebrity chef Nici Wickes is the cornerstone ambassador of Selaks New Zealand Roast Day. She’s developed a fantastic new range of roast recipes for the everyday cook.

“I’m so thrilled to be involved again in Selaks NZ Roast Day; it’s no secret I’m a huge fan of the roast. As is the norm, we’re keen to ensure everyone can make the most of this fabulous celebration of a meal that Kiwis really feel they own,” Nici says.

Nici is renowned as a foodie who is continually seeking out new ways of cooking and eating and that experience shows through on her recipes now available on the dedicated roast day website.

And with three new high profile celebrity cooks joining the kitchen in 2014 there’s going to be some intense competitive heat coming from the campaign.

Leigh Hart – aka That Guy – actor Shane Cortese and radio personality Leah Panapa are all lending their culinary nous to the programme contributing their favourite roast recipe.

To add spice to their contributions, members of the public are being asked to vote for their favourite celebrity recipe online at www.selaks.co.nz The creator of the winning recipe gets to donate $5,000 to his or her chosen charity.

The popular free downloadable Selaks NZ Roast Day e-cook book returns in 2014 with a brand new edition. It has more than 25 recipes and winter desserts prepared by Nic Wickes, previous years’ ambassadors Jonny Schwass and Paul Jobin and of course the three celebrity cook recipes competing for charity. There’s also a few from the Selaks team.
