UK: A pilgrimage to free pizza

Pizza Pilgrims is offering an Oxford student the chance to become an official pizza taster, with $3000 and free pizza for a year up for grabs.

Applications for the position at the brand’s Oxford pizzeria opened on 17 September and be open to all Oxford Brookes and Oxford University students.

Interested students will need to fill out a form on the restaurant’s website and submit a video explaining why they are perfect for the role.

Finalists will be invited to compete in a series of tasks, including pizza box folding, pizza spinning and pizza delivery before the official taster is crowned.

The taster will be required to visit Pizza Pilgrims once a week with up to three friends to complete free quality control tastings, as well as act as a Pizza Pilgrims ambassador and create an ‘Oxford special’ pizza.

The Pizza Pilgrim concept arose five years ago over an idea Thom and James Elliot had one night in the pub when they were keen to move on from their roles in advertising and television and into food. It is considered one of the original street food success stories in the UK with six prime London sites under their belts and another in the pipeline, taking the street food concept into bricks and mortar.
