Get a Taste of Portland at Beervana

TS Newsletter - Portland - PhotoAttendees at this weekend’s Beervana festival will have the opportunity to experience the very best beer and food that Portland, Oregon, USA has to offer.  For the first time, a special “Taste of Portland” area is being offered at Beervana, New Zealand’s premier celebration of craft beer, being held in Wellington on 22 and 23 August.

It is a part of a new initiative called the “Beervana Exchange” which encourages the sharing of ideas and experiences between two craft beer capitals.  Beervana will host three award winning Portland brewers (Widmer, Gigantic and Commons), Portland chef Paul Kasten will present three generous food and beer matches at special Taste of Portland seminars, while beer writer John Holl will also be part of the seminars and has an entry in the Media Brew competition.

The Media Brew contest sees nineteen journalists each team up with local brewers to make unique beers based on a specific theme.  This year the theme is to use a quintessentially Kiwi ingredient.  Portland’s Mr Holl is up against stiff competition as The Shout’s Head of Content Neil Miller has teamed with Upper Hutt brewery Kereru to produce what he hopes is the winning Media Brew.
