Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 5.13.51 pmBird On A Wire’s Takapuna location will debut a new breakfast menu this week. Available from 7.30 a.m. – 11.00 a.m., 7 days a week, the selection blends fresh takes on breakfast favourites with new dishes crafted specially for the menu.

Keeping in line with Bird On A Wire’s sustainable ethos, the Early Bird Breakfast Menu showcases ethically sourced ingredients like free-range eggs, chicken and bacon, house made sauces and dips and local, seasonal fruits and vegetables.

Lighter fare includes the Bird Bowl, a Middle Eastern breakfast salad with dukkah-crusted soft eggs, kumara hummus, avocado, feta, baby spinach and toast ($13, add bacon for $5); temptingly sweet Banana on Toast, toasted banana bread, whipped ricotta and a sprinkling of candied walnuts and cinnamon ($11); and the Birdseed Muesli ($10) and Grain-free Granola ($12), both served with fresh fruit and yoghurt.

Among the heartier options on the menu are the Chick n’ Egg n’ Cheese, a Kiwi version of the American hangover buster, Egg n’ Cheese, with a chicken sausage patty, fried egg, cheese, mustard mayo and house made ketchup in an English muffin ($13); and the Boston Baked Beans, a warming bowl of beans, chorizo and herb crumbs, with a side of toasted sourdough ($15, add an egg $3).

The Early Bird Breakfast Menu rounds out the 40-seat dine-in and takeaway restaurant’s all day offerings. In addition to being the only Bird On A Wire location to serve breakfast, the Takapuna site features a New Zealand-influenced wine and beer list, cocktail specials and a unique family-style group dining experience, where guests are served roast chicken, fresh salads and artisan bread for $15 per head.

Bird On A Wire Takapuna is located at Fortieth & Hurstmere, 40 Hurstmere Road, Takapuna, and open seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. – late.
