The top eight craft beer bars in Auckland

rsz_eight_best_craft_beer_bars_auckland_-_imageThe travel and tourism website Concrete Playground has “jumped on the brew-wagon” to identify eight of the “best beer lover’s havens in and around Auckland.” TheShout’s resident beer expert and regular visitor to the City of Sails, Neil Miller, then gives his verdict on their selections. Here is Concrete Playground’s list:

  • 16 Tun (10-26 Jellicoe Street, Wynyard Quarter)
  • Brothers Beer (Shed 3, 90 Wellesley Street West, CBD)
  • Galbraith’s Alehouse (2 Mt Eden Road, Mt Eden)
  • Hallertau (1171 Coatesville Riverhead Highway, Riverhead)
  • Leigh Sawmill Cafe (142 Pakiri Road, Leigh)
  • Brew On Quay (102 Quay Street, CBD)
  • Deep Creek Brewing Co. (111 Clyde Road, Brown’s Bay)
  • Skysport Grill (95-99 Customs St West, Viaduct Harbour)

Neil Miller, Head of Content for TheShout and current New Zealand beer writer of the year, believes it is an “impressive list.” “The Auckland craft beer scene has come on in leaps and bounds over the last five years. Before that, Galbraith’s was really the only ‘must visit’ beer destination. It’s now joined by other talented breweries and brewpubs, as well as bars with growing tap selections and their own individual personalities,” Miller said.

“I’m looking forward to checking out 16 Tun in the weekend for the launch of Millers Humulus Imperial IPA from Liberty Brewing (which is co-located on the picturesque Hallertau site). I’ve heard nothing but good things about the place. Galbraith’s will also be on my itinerary. I can’t remember the last time I was in Auckland without popping in for a pint,” he said.
